Gosar Should Stop Lying And Shoot Straight - No More Smears Against NRA A-Rated Ann

PRESCOTT, AZ – The increasingly desperate Paul Gosar campaign is at it again - and this time they're lying about Ann Kirkpatrick's steadfast record of defending Second Amendment rights. He put out a release with a statement from the Gun Owners of America, claiming that Ann voted twice against protecting gun rights in national parks.

In fact, Ann Kirkpatrick voted three times FOR protecting gun rights in national parks. She voted AGAINST allowing a public lands bill to move forward without provisions to safeguard the right to bear and keep arms on public lands (2009 Roll Calls #150 and #151), and FOR a successful measure to ensure those constitutional rights are respected (2009 Roll Call #277). The amendment she pushed into law was endorsed by both the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America itself.

Ann is also a co-sponsor of H.R. 1684 - the Preservation of the Second Amendment in National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges Act, an NRA-supported bill that would have also restored the rights of gun owners on federal land.

It's this sort of work that earned her an A rating from the NRA - the non-partisan group that is America's oldest, largest and most-respected advocate for protecting the Second Amendment.

"Gosar needs to stop lying and shoot straight," said Kirkpatrick campaign manager Carmen Gallus. "If all Paul has to offer this district is tall tales about Ann, why is he even running for Congress? He needs to stop the smears and start telling the truth about his plans to slash Social Security and raise taxes on middle class families."

BACKGROUND:

The Gosar campaign's ally is making their false claim based on Ann's votes to pass H.R. 146 and S. 22, omnibus public lands bills which received bipartisan support, had no connection with gun rights and which the NRA took no position on. The gun rights amendment that Ann helped pass addressed GOA's concerns about these bills.

Ann Kirkpatrick's father taught her how to hunt, and she is proud to be a gun owner. She has earned an "A" rating from the NRA for her efforts to defend Second Amendment rights, which also include:

•    Opposing the creation of a federal gun registration database, co-sponsoring a resolution declaring that such a law would be unconstitutional.
•    Standing up against the Administration’ s proposal to reinstate the so-called “assault weapons” ban, sending a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding that he drop the plan. This effort earned the praise of the NRA.
•    Supporting the National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act, so that gun owners would be able to cross state lines without losing their freedoms.
•    Supporting legal efforts to make sure local governments honor the promise of the Second Amendment, joining a bipartisan brief backing the right to bear and keep arms in the Supreme Court case McDonald v. Chicago.
