I support and encourage renewable energy sources like wind and solar, which will improve our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, lower energy costs, and create thousands of new, good-paying jobs right here in Arizona. I challenged the White House and Congressional leadership by voting against Cap and Trade because it would raise energy costs for working families and kill jobs at local coal plants, small businesses, farms and ranches in Greater Arizona. In these tough economic times, folks simply cannot afford to lose their jobs. One example of jobs created by renewable energy sources is the Dry Lake Wind Project in Navajo County, which created over 200 jobs and will supply energy to over 15,000 residences. I have also worked with the Department of Energy to create jobs in our communities through the Renewable Energy Grant Program, which funded energy efficiency projects in dozens of schools and buildings through Greater Arizona. I understand the need to balance economic and environmental concerns, and I remain committed to creating jobs by bringing renewable energy projects to Arizona.
