I took on the Democratic Leadership and voted against every bailout that has come before Congress in my first term, including the bank and auto industry bailouts. I strongly opposed the bank bailouts because taxpayer dollars should not be used to reward Wall Street CEOs while working families and small business owners suffer through tough economic times. I am a co-sponsor of the Repaying the American Taxpayer Act, a bipartisan bill that directs all repaid bank bailout money from banks to be dedicated to paying down the national debt. As an independent voice in Washington, I will continue fighting against corporate bailouts and working to pay down our national debt.
