On March 20th, I voted for Health Insurance Reform because it delivers quality and affordable health care for the American people. This bill is about protecting Americans from insurance company abuses and holding them accountable. Under this new law, people can keep their current insurance plans and their doctors. It also improves and strengthens Medicare and does not cut our seniors' Medicare benefits. It gives both patients and doctors more freedom by stopping abuses by insurance companies.
Health insurance reform will reduce our deficit by over $1 trillion, end denials of coverage based on pre-existing conditions, make sure our children can get the care they need and protect our seniors so they can have affordable prescription drugs. Additionally, reform will give our small businesses tax credits that enable them to provide their employees with the quality coverage they deserve. This reform will help 118,000 people in our district currently without coverage get insurance and help an additional 331,000 people access better, more affordable care. I look forward to continuing to discuss Health Insurance Reform to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to access quality and affordable coverage.
