Former Prosecutor Ann Kirkpatrick Sweeps Historic Democratic Primary Election
Prescott, AZ - Former state representative and prosecutor Ann Kirkpatrick swept the Democratic Primary for Arizona's 1st Congressional District this evening with a landslide win. Kirkpatrick's strong margin of victory leaves the McNary native well positioned for a quick transition into the general election.
Beginning her campaign in July 2026, Kirkpatrick, with deep roots in the White Mountains and a lifelong commitment to serving Arizona, built momentum in her campaign early. She built on this momentum with the endorsements of Governor Janet Napolitano, former Navajo Nation President Dr. Peterson Zah, and an impressive coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents from across Arizona's 1st Congressional District.
As a former prosecutor with a proven track record of cracking down on meth pushers and violent criminals, her campaign was bolstered by unusually strong support from Arizona's law enforcement community such as Coconino County Sheriff Bill Pribil, Navajo County Sheriff Gary Butler, and the Arizona Police Association.
"Tonight, we are one step closer to bringing real change to Washington and it feels great," Kirkpatrick said.
"I grew up in Arizona and raised my family here. I love Arizona and I've had the honor of serving my home state as a prosecutor, teacher, community volunteer and state representative," said Kirkpatrick.
"I spent the past year talking with voters all across the district about the need for high-paying jobs in Arizona, affordable health care and a responsible energy plan that will relieve our pain at the pump and free us from our dependence on Middle Eastern oil," continued Kirkpatrick. "In Congress, I will work to break the partisan gridlock and reach across party lines to cut taxes for middle class families."
Kirkpatrick has built an impressive campaign organization that is ready for the transition to the general election. She already has two campaign headquarters, one in Prescott and the other in Casa Grande, and will be opening a third in Flagstaff shortly. She has built an impressive grassroots network of volunteers that have been making thousands of phone calls and knocking on hundreds of doors every day for the past few weeks.
